March 31st, 2018 Grateful

March 31st, 2018 Grateful

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I exceeded my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

Emceeing the film festival went well tonight! Cindy accompanied me for the special evening.

I'm so grateful she and I found one another. It's insanely wonderful how much we have in common, in weight loss and plenty of other ways!

I intentionally tilted my food schedule again today to accommodate a late meal after the festival. I still left a few hundred calories on the table, but that's okay when it's this late!

I could have tilted it the other direction with an early dinner before the show, but I've never liked eating before a performance of any kind. It goes back to my standup comedy days.

I wasn't doing standup last night or tonight, I was simply the emcee, but anytime a stage, audience, and a microphone get involved, it brings back a flood of wonderful memories of those days long ago. It's fitting to get home and find a Tweet from Ralphie May's Twitter account. Whoever is handling Ralphie's Twitter since his passing, thank you!
Ralphie, Lahna, and I were roommates for a short time during my Los Angeles standup days. Ralphie and I were very close in size and weight. We were also occasional binge buddies. Oh, the memories of Popeye's Chicken and In-N-Out Burger spread out all over the couch, both of us diving in, polishing off enough food to feed a family of five. When it came to food, we certainly spoke the same language and completely understood one another. Rest in peace, Ralphie. You're missed by a lot of people all over the world.

Ralphie finished his book before he passed too young and I highly recommend it! You can find it anywhere books are sold--and of course, on Amazon. It's called: This Might Get A Little Heavy: A Memoir.

I better drop in bed. There's an Easter egg hunt with my grandsons Noah and Oliver tomorrow!

Thank you for reading and your continued support,
Strength,
Sean

How to get rid of under eye circles

"Wow, are you okay? You look tired!" We've all heard it. That concerned, but slightly offensive question. Yes, everything's fine, and yes, I am quite tired. As a busy mom of two and entrepreneur, under eye circles have become a part of my daily look, just like yoga pants and top knots. So I was especially excited to speak with dermatologists and beauty experts about their best tips for ditching those under eye circles.

While I won't be signing up for surgery any time soon, there are plenty of other easy and cheap ideas for looking more youthful and rejuvenated.

Know the cause

First, it's helpful to know what's causing your under eye circles. Once you know the cause, it will be easier to find the right solution. New York oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Brett Kotlus, MD told me those pesky under eye circles are the most common reason patients come to his practice. "The most common causes of under eye circles are protruding under eye fat pads and under eye fat loss or hollowing (also called the tear trough)," he explained. These fat pads can protrude and cast a shadow around the eyes. People who have under eye fat pads usually have them due to genetics. Take a look at your parents and grandparents. If they had dark or protruding under eye circles, that's most likely where yours are coming from.

Age is always a factor

Unfortunately, if you're not thrilled with your under eye circles, they're not going anywhere naturally. They actually worsen as we age. As we get older, we lose fat in our faces. When that happens, the fat pads under our eyes can look more pronounced, making us look even more tired.

"As we age, we lose fat in our face along with bone," Dr. Jill Waibel, owner of the Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, tells me. "This causes the depression and sunken look in our faces."

You may have also noticed this effect if you've ever lost weight. Losing fat throughout the body means less fat in your face, causing an older appearance.

Focus on prevention

The health and beauty experts I spoke with had a variety of ways to get rid of under eye circles, but they all agreed on one thing: it's easier to prevent them than to treat them. "The best way to prevent under eye circles is to consistently use a revitalizing eye treatment," Chalet Cosmetics cofounder Andrea Rodriguez told me. "And of course to be sure to get plenty of rest and drink lots of water." Rodriguez recommends using an anti-aging cream like Chalet Green Apple Eyes every day. A good eye cream should provide the skin nourishment and moisture it needs to maintain its elasticity.

Sleep will help

The reason we hate our under eye circles is because they make us look tired. One of the easiest ways to improve your bags is to not be tired for once. That means it's crucial to get plenty of restorative sleep.

"Get your beauty rest," owner of Blu Skin Care, LLC Zondra Wilson told me. "It's not completely clear why not enough sleep results in dark circles under the eyes, but a lack of sleep tends to cause the skin to become paler (thus increasing the appearance of darkness under the eyes), and reduces circulation."

And while you're getting your restorative sleep, try doubling up on your pillows. When we light flat all night, fluid pools under our eyes. If you sleep at a slight incline, that fluid drains down and won't pool as much.

Wash your face before bed

Before going to bed every night, make sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser. This is one of the easiest ways to keep a wide-awake, youthful look every day. Be sure to remove all your makeup before bed. "If you don't [remove your makeup] as you age, you will constantly look tired," says Zondra Wilson. "Yikes! Nobody wants that." New York esthetician and consultant Liz Donat, LE agrees. "Never sleep in your makeup!" she told me.

The real reason Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux split

In news that shocked the world and left pretty much all of us believing that love is dead, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are over.

The estranged couple said in a joint statement to the The Associated Press on Feb. 15, 2018, "Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else's fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."

They were a couple since 2011, but were only married two years before pulling the plug on the relationship. What the heck happened to this seemingly happy husband and wife?

They had too little in common

A source told E! News that despite their mutual penchant for wearing black, Aniston and Theroux are simply from different worlds.

"Jennifer and Justin fell in love hard and fast and yet they were never really suited to one another. He was a New York hipster that loved the alternative lifestyle and Jennifer was living a much more reclusive life when they first started to fall in love. The initial chemistry between them made it easy for them to ignore their differences and incompatibility … He's more nomadic, more of a free spirit, he's rugged and urban and Jennifer just isn't that kind of person."

The source added, "Jennifer's previous breakups had taught her to live a life that was very secular; her friendship group was small and consisted of people that she intimately trusted. Justin was used to being way more social and so that was a big concession for him … They've had problems for a while."

They were insanely busy

A source told People, "For years, even before they married, they compromised and did their own thing. It has involved long separations, especially for their work demands."

The last year was particularly grueling schedule-wise: After Theroux wrapped up work on The Leftovers, he did voiceover work for The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017), appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), filmed three more movies, and signed on for the TV show Maniac. Meanwhile, Aniston starred in The Yellow Birds (2017), filmed Dumplin' (2018), and signed on to an as-yet-untitled Apple TV project alongside Reese Witherspoon for 2018.

A source told Radar Online, "Jen's proud of Justin's work but she'd be lying if she said she wasn't looking forward to the end of his HBO series, The Leftovers, which has relocated to Australia for its third season." The insider claimed that "after Justin told her bosses were leaving a door open should HBO want another series, Jen flipped out … It would have been better if he could have gotten a serious movie career off the ground as that only involves him being away for six weeks instead of six months."

They may have had a faulty foundation

Aniston often gets painted as the victim of man-stealing Angelina Jolie, but it turns out she may have been a homewrecker herself. Before shacking up with Aniston in 2011, Theroux was in a live-in relationship with stylist Heidi Bivens for 14 years.

Bivens' mother told Radar Online, "Heidi told me what Justin had told her [after they broke up], that something was going to be written about him and Jennifer, that something was going on between them and he wanted her to know that it was nothing, there was nothing to it. Out of his own mouth he told my daughter there was nothing to [the news he was involved with Jennifer]."

A source told Grazia magazine (via Page Six), that Aniston tried to mend fences with Bivens. "Jen told Heidi that she understands what a painful time she has been going through and explained that she wanted her to know, hand on heart, that she would never steal another woman's man," the insider said."

They lived on separate coasts

The biggest hurdle for Aniston and Theroux's marriage was the physical distance between them.

A source told People, "Jennifer loves her life in Los Angeles, and if anything, she has grown more attached to being there. Justin is not that comfortable or happy in Los Angeles all the time. He loves New York and always has."

An insider told Us Weekly, "Jen tried the whole living in New York City thing with Justin, but at heart, she is a California girl. New York City just wasn't ever going to be home for Jen … [Theroux] spent most of his time [with friends in New York]. Encouraging Justin to spend as much time as he wanted in New York City is what doomed the marriage. Jen thought by doing so, spending time without her would make Justin miss her more."

A supposed friend of the pair saw the split coming, telling In Touch, "Jen and Justin have arguments about where they should live. Jen can't stand the weather in New York and she hates not having a car in the city to drive to wherever she needs to go … She's always hoping that they can work out their differences — she sees a glimmer of hope every time Justin returns to LA … Unless there is a miraculous turnaround on both of their parts and they can actually live together in the same home in the same city, Jen and Justin could be history."

The womb watch got old

niston's womb has been a constant source of media scrutiny since her days as Mrs. Brad Pitt, and her marriage to Theroux brought out tabloid hawks even more — and that devastated her, likely adding to tension within the marriage.

In a blistering op-ed for The Huffington Post in July 2016, Aniston wrote, "For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up … I may become a mother someday … But I'm not in pursuit of motherhood because I feel incomplete in some way … I resent being made to feel 'less than' because my body is changing and/or I had a burger for lunch and was photographed from a weird angle and therefore deemed one of two things: 'pregnant' or 'fat.' Not to mention the painful awkwardness that comes with being congratulated by friends, coworkers and strangers alike on one's fictional pregnancy (often a dozen times in a single day)."

Unfortunately, her op-ed didn't necessarily help. As Aniston told Vogue in August 2017, "I think the problem is the tabloids and the gossip columns taking the human body and putting it in a category. They're either fat-shaming, or body-shaming, or childless-shaming … I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human … I couldn't hear this narrative anymore about being pregnant or not pregnant; you have no idea what is going on personally in our lives and why that is or is not happening."

Gerard Butler may still have the hots for her

Aniston dated 300 (2006) actor Gerard Butler in 2009 while they were filming The Bounty Hunter (2010). Though the romance was short-lived, sources say the former co-stars may be giving it another go.

"Jen has been leaning hard on Gerard as her relationship with Justin continues to disintegrate," a source told Radar Online in February 2018, just days before news of the breakup broke. The source added that Butler telling Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in January 2018 that Aniston was a better kisser than Angelina Jolie was no accident, either.

"It's no coincidence that just as Jen's marriage is imploding, Gerard made a public display of affection and loyalty toward her … She's really touched that Gerard is proving he has her back," the insider alleged. "Gerard told Jen he's still carrying a torch for her. He's made it clear that the timing wasn't right before, but he's ready to commit to her now."

March 30th, 2018 Same Size

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I met my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

Sleeping in this morning was fabulous. I needed the rest! I plan on doing the same in the morning. I intentionally tilted my food schedule today because I didn't want to eat dinner right before emceeing the Bison Bison Film Festival tonight. It made for a really late dinner for Cindy and me, but it was okay. I've never been one to worry about the time. If it's ridiculously late, I've been known to leave some calories on the table, but it wasn't too bad tonight.

My emcee job tonight went well even though I read a typo without thinking first and horribly flubbed one of the film titles. Oh well, it happens, and it was okay. The rest of the night worked very well. Cindy joined me for the event tonight and she is planning on dressing up with me (I'll be in a tuxedo) for tomorrow night's films and awards.

I must note how it feels to once again emcee this event at the same size as the year before. It's simply amazing to me. The annual events like this become the biggest reminders. I can remember times when the reminder was very different and not at all desirable!! But this--oh my, this, is a very blessed thing. I'm so grateful for the support, the plan, and the practice each and every day that helps keeps me well.

Tomorrow will basically be a carbon copy of today except for the formal attire. I'll make sure we get pictures!

Amber, KL, and Baby Raegan are doing very well, by the way. My youngest, Courtney, is set to deliver Phoebe on Tuesday if she doesn't before that day. It's an exciting time around here!

Thank you for reading and your continued support,

What happens to your body when you eat fast food

We've all been there: starving, way past hangry, and convinced your stomach is starting to digest itself. And then you see it out of the corner of your eye, like a desert mirage: the unmistakable golden arches of a McDonald's. In a last ditch effort to save your sanity, you whip through the drive-thru and house a Big Mac and large fries faster than you can blink.

At the time, fast food seems like a true gift. It's freaking delicious, and it's cheap. But within a few hours, you may start to feel off. Your stomach may hurt, or you might notice your skin is a little greasier than usual. You immediately curse the meal you ravaged not too long ago. Here's what's actually going on in your body when you eat fast food.

You gain more weight

If you've ever looked at the nutrition facts on any food or drink label, you've probably noticed that every measurement is based on a 2,000 calorie diet. While the amount of calories you should eat daily to maintain a healthy weight depends on a number of factors, including your sex and height, in general the more calories you eat, the more weight you gain.

Fast food is notorious for containing a ton of calories. For example, a crunchy taco from Taco Bell has 190 calories, a Big Mac has 540 calories, and a Wendy's Baconator has 950 calories. Now, if these were your only meals of the day, that'd be one thing. But that's probably not the case, considering fast food is full of empty calories, meaning they hold little to no nutrients — which is why you're hungry again so soon after eating it. A 2004 study found that those who eat fast food frequently generally have a higher body mass index and are more likely to be overweight than those who don't.

You get tired

In 2015, a Daily Mail writer tested fast food's effect on the body by eating nothing but fast food for a full week. By the end of the week, she reported that her "concentration levels were much lower than usual and [her] fatigue was a real issue, even after a long night's sleep."

If you've ever had a food coma, you'll relate. It turns out the exhaustion you feel after eating a large meal is real. The sleepiness comes from a certain type of amino acid called tryptophan, which becomes more available to the brain via carbohydrates. Since fast foods are typically heavy in carbs, it makes sense that the more fast food you eat, the more tired you'll feel.

You raise your cholesterol levels

According to the American Heart Association, there are two types of trans fats: naturally-occurring, which comes from animals, and artificial, which are created industrially and are the types of trans fats most fast food companies use because they're inexpensive, last a long time, and — if we're honest — they make food taste damn good.

Trans fats are known to raise your cholesterol levels, which increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. In fact, they're so bad for you that some places have even restricted the use of them, the American Heart Association confirms.

March 29th, 2018 Opinion

March 29th, 2018 Opinion

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I exceeded my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

Today I was asked about my opinion on "cheat days" or "cheat meals."

In my book, Transformation Road, I wrote about my philosophy on cheat days or cheat meals--or cheating, period. If what I'm doing is so restrictive and against the grain of what I can do for the rest of my life, then perhaps I need to change what I'm doing. For me to accept a "cheat day," suggests that what I'm doing the rest of the time is just a means to an end. If I'm constantly looking forward to the day when I can cut loose--then I might want to inspect the daily restraints. This isn't about defining restrictions, it's about refining solutions--making this something enjoyable, doable--workable, delicious--satisfying...and if we can make it all that, then why would we feel the need to deviate into old behaviors for a day or a meal? If what I'm doing is a temporary means to an end--and I'm forcing myself to do something unnatural to me and what I like--then I'm setting myself up for a monumental problem down the line.

I was also asked about how not eating refined sugar has helped me over the past four years.

The abstinence from refined sugar has made a profound impact bio-chemically--effectively turning off the "binge switch" and ushering in a peace and calm I never knew. But as I've discussed before--it doesn't stop the other side of things--the deeply ingrained pattern of seeking comfort with food in times of extreme emotion and high stress.

It's not as easy as simply agreeing that excess food doesn't fix anything--or that food isn't a therapist. It doesn't matter how long or how much success we're experiencing, I've learned that unless I reach out for support, I'm perfectly capable of talking myself into the comfort food dynamic.

My success isn't a guarantee. I'm not entitled. It's not automatic. If I stop doing the things I'm doing, I'll quickly fall hard.

This here thing is a daily practice--a one day at a time practice of uniquely crafted fundamental elements. I just want one more day feeling as good as I feel when I'm honoring my commitment and maintaining the integrity of my plan. I'd like a whole bunch of one more days.

March 28th, 2018 It's What I Do

March 28th, 2018 It's What I Do

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I exceeded my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

Jordan's words from yesterday's post really resonate with me. I used the words "I know" over and over, too. And like Jordan, those words almost killed me. And still, to this day, those words are dangerous for me because I've discovered it isn't what I know that's important, it's what I do.

When I look back at my nearly twenty years as a 500-pound man, I realize my "know" was very limited. I knew the very basics of eating less and moving more. What I didn't know at that time was how these two things were truly the least of what I needed to learn. The barrier for me all those years ago was my constant declaration of "knowing." If we know it all, then we haven't a need to learn more, and we can't because we've essentially shut down our potential for growth.

What I didn't know back then was how the non-food, non-exercise elements; the structure of support and accountability, was/are the things constantly supporting the plan. "Structure of support," to me is a fairly broad phrase covering everything from my morning prayer/meditations, positive visualizations, planning/prep, weighing, measuring, logging, and of course, direct one on one support connections each and every day. When I would say "I know what to do," back then, I wasn't thinking about any of these things because I didn't know.

Even today, I'm the first to admit--I don't know it all. I've experienced a lot. I've learned some things in the hardest ways. I've defined and refined the plan that works well for me again and again. I've evolved nicely, but there's more to learn--more to experience, more to appreciate and consider. Staying open-minded, humble, and willing to watch, listen, and learn is, in my opinion, imperative to continued positive progress.

March 27th, 2018 I Know, I Know

March 27th, 2018 I Know, I Know

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I met my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

I'm republishing a guest post from May of last year written by my friend Jordan Burgess.

I think I've had one other guest post in the history of this blog. I asked for his permission to republish it here. It's powerful stuff!

Thank you, Jordan!

"I Know" by Jordan Burgess (Listen to Jordan's interview on episode 13 of Transformation Planet)

"I know"- those words almost killed me.

For years, in fact, most of my adult life, friends, family, and even concerned strangers would try and talk to me about my weight.

Die young, orphaned kids, bad health, diabetes, cancer, no career prospects, and on and on. "I know" was the only response I could muster. And I did know.

What I didn't realize until later was that what I should have said is "I don't know how to stop." My "I know" was really a misplaced cry for help.

I "knew" how to lose weight. For the most part, everyone knows. You simply expend more energy than you consume....every 5th grader knows that, right?

And I knew it too. I just needed to "do" it. Funny how far apart the "knowing" and "doing" were. All that and the results were less than nothing. Literally, I would try and GAIN weight.

The thing that worked for me is I had to have a really honest conversation with myself. Not necessarily about what foods I ate (although that was a part of the conversation), but about why all that knowledge couldn't produce any results. It boiled down to one simple phrase "If I could of, I would of."

I found myself able to exert enormous discipline and willpower in almost every other area of my life, except food. Try as I may, I could never fully tame the compulsion to keep eating things that I knew I shouldn't be in amounts that I shouldn't be eating.

I finally admitted that I would not be able to beat this, not on my own. That's when there was a new plan. Not one of me doing all the work, but more of following simple directions and letting go of the things that I thought I needed. Obviously, those were not working.

If you had told me that I could lose 230 pounds in a year by eating over 2000 calories a day I would have said "impossible."

This honesty and willingness to step outside of my own thinking is what has produced results for me.

Everybody is different. But I would encourage you to ask. If you find yourself time and time again not getting the results you want or expect, then have an honest conversation with yourself. I've been fortunate enough to meet several people on my own journey with lasting recovery. They all have varied food and exercise plans, but the one thing they all have in common is that they are completely honest with themselves.

People will sometimes approach me about just having "one of this" or "one of that" when it comes to food. "All things in moderation," they say. I almost always respond that I "am on a plan of abstinence, not moderation."

Moderation does not work for me, especially when it comes to food. One thing I had to learn about me is that I had to be abstinent from certain things with a happy heart.

For example- I love ice cream- Blue Bell ice cream is my absolute favorite. When I discovered ice cream was probably my #1 trigger food I determined I could not have it. Not a single bite, ever again- because if I started - I didn't know if I could stop. Over time I would get resentful- whenever I saw someone else eating it, or when a new flavor came out. I realized this resentment was poisoning my plan. I was looking at it the wrong way. What I was getting was much more valuable than what I was giving up.

Once I flipped that perspective- then I was ready to embrace a food plan that abstained from anything and everything that triggered me.

I just thought I'd throw out some thoughts tonight. Hope you are all well.

Thank you, Jordan!

Kaleidoscope Hair Is the New Watercolor-Inspired Take on Rainbow Hair-Color Ideas

As William Shakespeare once said, "Rainbow hair by any other name would look as sweet." OK, I might have tweaked the iconic line a bit, but it fully applies to a pastel rainbow hair look going viral on Instagram — whether Juliet had rainbow hair or not.
The stylist who came up with the dye job refers to it as "watercolor rainbow" and "rainbow river" hair, while others on Instagram have dubbed it "kaleidoscope hair." Its opalescence reminds me of a rainbow highlighter like the Too Faced Rainbow Strobe Highlighter, so I guess I should throw "rainbow highlighter" hair into the ring. Regardless, Portland-based hairstylist Lindsay Wolf dyed one of her clients' hair all different pastel tones of ROYGBIV with a technique that created a gorgeous prismatic effect. You typically see this look done with vibrant, neon shades, but Wolf was able to accomplish it with delicate, dreamy ones — just as she hoped.
"This look was inspired by nature, specifically the rainbows of the Pacific Northwest," Wolf tells Allure. "I knew I wanted it to be a softer take on bolder rainbow hair looks I’d been seeing a lot of. I wanted the shades to look fluid, as though they were melting into each other, not being able to see where each color begins or ends." If you ask me, she was able to do that flawlessly.
To make kaleidoscope hair happen, Wolf started off her pastel prismatic rainbow look by lightening her client's hair to an icy platinum blonde. This shade is essential for pastel dyes, and her client had to stop by the salon for two four-hour sessions to achieve it. For the third five-hour session, Wolf painted on the pastel dyes from Guy Tang's Mydentity line, specifically Pink Diamond (a rose), Lavender Lust (a smoky purple), and Mint of Steel (a seafoam). She also used Pulp Riot's Powder (a sky blue) and Lemon (a buttery yellow). She alternated between four different patterns of color combinations as she worked around her client's head. "I actually had to write them down and hang them in front of me so I didn’t forget which color came next," she admits. In case you weren't following, the whole process took 13 hours total. Damn.

Thinking about trying out the look for yourself? Because it requires bleaching, Wolf says it's best for those with natural medium to light blonde hair with a fine to medium texture. She also recommends scheduling an appointment with a stylist who is confident with working with direct dyes. Once you do so, ask them for a "multi-toned pastel color melt," as Wolf calls it. Plus, "know that this is a look that requires an investment of time, money, and patience, but the results are so, so worth it," she adds. Agreed.

How To Whiten Your Yellow Nails

It is a common thing for your nails to get all yellow due to the usual manicure. You probably already noticed there is nothing different even if you use top coats. This being said, we think you will find today’s article quite useful. Here is how you can whiten your nails in your own home.

You will need:
– 2 ¼ tsp of baking soda;
– 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide 3%.
Directions: Mix the two ingredients. If the mixture isn’t thick enough, you can add more of the ingredients. Dip your nails into this mixture and let it work for 20-30 minutes. Meanwhile you can even use a toothbrush for scrubbing the nails. When done, wash your hands and use some moisturizing cream.

Celebs who have had bad luck in love

Celebrity relationships aren't typically known for their longevity. Very few couples in Hollywood last more than a few years, and even the ones that go the distance tend to disintegrate one way or another. That said, here are some celebs whose love lives are even rougher than usual. Think your last breakup was hard? Try having your relationship go into the toilet blasted on the cover of every magazine in the world.

Taylor Swift

This songstress may generate hits on the Billboard charts, but when it comes to her love life there's no denying that she's no winner. After a slew of boyfriends and tons of chart-topping lyrics that center around breakups, Swift's love life has become a favorite for media fodder. The singer has dated several famous men including John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor Kennedy, and Taylor Lautner, and most of those relationships have ended badly. And let's not forget Harry Stiles and Joe Jonas. What happened with all of these boyfriends in such a short amount of time? While Swift does not tend to talk publicly about her relationships, many of her fans know that she says more than enough in her lyrics. Back in 2010, Taylor dated Jake Gyllenhaal for a few months and some of her songs on her previous album, RED, are known to reflect on that time. "The Last Time" is rumored to be about the movie star, with Taylor reportedly saying the lyrics concern a guy who is "unreliable, someone you never know is going to stay or leave, but does always come back." Some have noticed a pattern that none of the serial dater's relationships have lasted much longer than a few months. Maybe her bad luck has something to do with her, and not necessarily the boyfriend of the moment.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock has said publicly after her divorce that "Nobody can be prepared for anything." After what she considered to be a happy marriage to Jesse James, the movie star found out that her then-husband was having an affair in the most horrible of ways: through the media. Jesse's mistress was the heavily tattooed Michelle "Bombshell" McGhee. Upon hearing the news, Sandra Bullock reportedly broke down. "The feeling of shame and sadness that washed over me as Sandy began to cry was almost beyond measure. I didn't touch her. I sat frozen in my chair, watching, as Sandy's small body shook with sobs," James wrote. Worse, the breakup affected the children the couple were raising. Sandra had acted as a mom to Sunny, Jesse James' daughter from a previous marriage to a porn star, and so Sunny lost a second mother figure in her life during their permanent separation. Then there was also Louis, the boy that Sandra had adopted and would, for the time being, be raised without a father.

Mom was very excited about getting out for our regular Sunday night get together. We dined at our favorite Mexican restaurant and I ordered my favorite fajita chicken tacos. If you're local to me, you'll not find these on the menu at Los Portalis. I order the ingredients separately, then assemble the tacos at the table. I know what I want and how I want it--and I get exactly what I need. A big part of successfully navigating restaurants, in my opinion, and experience, is not being afraid to ask specifically for what we want and need. 99% of the time, the server and kitchen will go out of their way to deliver. It's about turning roadblocks into alternate routes.

Mom and I visited Amber, KL, and baby Raegan tonight. Oh my--that little princess is the cutest little girl in the entire world. Her soft little cry just melts my heart.

It's been a good day.

March 24th, 2018 Wonderful

March 24th, 2018 Wonderful

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I exceeded my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

Today's You Plan Workshop was a success! I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity and feel incredibly blessed with the outcome. I'm looking forward to organizing more workshops in the near future!

I cannot thank Cindy enough for her incredible support today. She helped me organize the entire event! Here's something many may not know about her: She has her own one hundred pound weight loss and maintenance story. She shared her experience too during the "let's get to know one another" portion of the program. It was wonderful.

Gerri Helms--oh my, Gerri--what can I say...well, quite honestly, I can't say for sure I'd be here each day working my daily practice if not for her support over the years. Gerri is very experienced at organizing workshops literally all over the world--her help and guidance was and always is, invaluable.

I'm thrilled with how it all turned out today. The feedback I'm receiving from attendees is overwhelmingly positive. I couldn't ask for anything more.

I'm blessed and grateful.

Buttermilk Pan-Fried Chicken

“This fried chicken is double-crusted for extra crispiness. I like using extra-virgin olive oil for my fried chicken, but you can use whatever type of oil you prefer. I also cut the breasts in half so everyone can both have white and dark meat.”
Ingredients
1 3 1/2-pound whole chicken, cut into 10 pieces (breasts halved)
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Extra-virgin olive oil, for frying
6 fresh rosemary sprigs
Honey, for serving (optional)

Preparation

Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and sprinkle both sides with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Let the chicken come to room temperature (about 25 minutes).

In a large bowl, combine the flour, garlic and onion powders, cayenne, black pepper and the remaining teaspoon salt. Pour the buttermilk into another medium bowl.

Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, making sure each piece is completely coated, then dip into the buttermilk. Now dredge once more in the flour mixture. Place on a rimmed sheet pan lined with a wire rack.

Fill a large, heavy-bottomed, high-sided pot or a Dutch oven with 3/4 inch of oil and place over medium heat (and no higher than medium). Heat the oil until a deep-fry thermometer reads 325⁰F. If you don’t have a thermometer, test the oil by sprinkling in a little flour – it should sizzle immediately.

Carefully add the chicken to the pot skin-side down without overcrowding (you will most likely have to cook in batches). Fry the chicken, turning occasionally, for 12-18 minutes, until golden brown and crisp, and cooked through (you can cut into the thickest part of the thigh near the bone to make sure it’s no longer pink – the dark meat will take the longest). The oil should maintain rapid but in-control bubbles and the oil temperature should stay around 325⁰F, so adjust the heat as necessary. Let the chicken drain on paper towel-lined plate.

Fry the rosemary sprigs in the hot oil for about 30 seconds, or until crisp.

Serve the chicken hot or cold with the fried rosemary. Drizzle with honey if you like.

March 23rd, 2018 Kind To You

March 23rd, 2018 Kind To You

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget, I remained refined sugar-free, I met my daily water goal, and I stayed well connected with good support.

If you're struggling, I hope you're being kind to you. I never understood that concept in previous weight loss attempts. If I struggled, I'd compound the challenge by calling myself every name in the book describing how I felt about my inability to "get it together."

When I was finally ready to move forward in a positive way, it started by picking myself up with positive thoughts and actions instead of holding me down with negative thoughts, energy, and actions.

Reaching an accord within, a forgiveness, and letting go of the guilt, shame, and every other negative thought and emotion isn't easy, but it's critically important for moving forward in a stable, positive way.

Something that can help further solidify this: Make "a list of you." This list should contain the answers to this question:

What are the things about me that do not change if I'm heavy or at a healthy weight, or for richer or poorer-- what are the core qualities of me that are constant, regardless of everything else?

The list should be populated with your likes, dislikes, things that bring you joy, things you're passionate about, things you're good at doing!!! Also, the things that make you a loving and compassionate person. These wonderful things we possess often get ignored when we're preoccupied with all of the negative thoughts and feelings surrounding relapse/regain.

For many of us, these are things we've ignored for years because we've been too busy, either focused on how good we feel about our success or how bad we feel about where we are at any given point along the way.

Embrace your core-- wrap it in a level of love and compassion you normally reserve for others...gift yourself that love, compassion, and acceptance-- and realize: Heavier, thinner-- successfully losing or struggling with relapse/regain--it truly never, EVER, changed any of these core qualities in you.

You've always been an amazing person worthy of love and worthy of extending yourself the gift of extraordinary care and the improved health and vitality that comes with it.

I wish you all the best. I'm so happy you're here, where you are, moving forward with a resolve reserved for the most important things in your life.

I've been working today on getting ready for my workshop tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting into it! If you're within driving distance, now's your last chance to register!

Flax Seed Powder: Benefits & Uses

The
health benefits of flax seeds powder and it's uses, also known as linseed.

  1. Flax seeds have been grown
and cultivated for over 6000 years. They are one of the most ancient crops
and have some wonderful health benefits for the human body.

  1. This is one of the most
powerful plant foods on the planet as it is rich in nutrients which fight
    off disease.

  1. These small golden coloured
seeds are the number one source of lignans in a human diet. Lignans are
antioxidants which balance hormones throughout the body.

  1. Many people eat flax seeds as
they are a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids and B vitamins. These help
your hair to grow by reducing dryness and a flaky scalp.

  1. Flax seeds can be ground to
create flax seed powder. This is much better to consume, as your body can
    easily absorb its nutrients.

  1. The fibre in flax seed powder
has been scientifically shown to reduce cholesterol, as it causes more fat
to be excreted when you use the toilet.

The
soluble fibre also helps to trap bile forcing the body to produce more in the
gallbladder which breaks down fat.

  1. The power is often used by
those with coeliac disease as it is completely gluten free, and has
anti-inflammatory properties which is easy to digest for a sensitive
    stomach.

  1. Flax seed powder can be used
as an alternative to flour in baking and works well when combined with
    coconut flour.

  1. Some companies cold press
flax seeds to produce flax seed oil which also contains these health
    boosting properties.

  1. The lignans within the seeds
also have anti-aging effects as they help cells to regenerate. This
protects the body from degrading with age.

  1. They also have the ability to
regulate oestrogen levels in both men and women. This is excellent to
protect women from certain types of cancer after menopause.

  1. Studies have also shown that
flax seeds can reduce the risk of prostate, ovarian, breast and colon
cancer due to their ability to regulate hormones and boost healthy
    bacteria in the digestive tract.

  1. Many menopausal women take
flax seeds in their breakfast smoothies to help to calm hot flashes and
night sweats. It also helps to regulate periods for younger women.

  1. Those who suffer with dry
eyes benefit from consuming these seeds as they have eye lubricating
    effects.

  1. The essential fatty acids
reduce blood clotting and triglycerides in the body. This helps to protect
you heart from failure and heart disease.

  1. In order to consume flax
seeds, it is important that they are ground, as the whole seeds may pass
straight through the body due to their shells.  Use a pestle and mortar to achieve this.

  1. This powder can be thrown
into delicious salads, stir fries, smoothies or soups in order to easily
    boost your intake.

  1. Sprouted Flax Seeds on the
other hand contain even more health benefits than the dormant variety.
Simply soak them in water and stir occasionally for 2-4 days. This
activates the seeds and make them more nutritious.

  1. Other methods include
consuming flax seed gel or flax seed oil. Please see our other videos to
learn more about these, and other seeds, nuts and legumes.
